

2013 – SWAMI VIVEKANANDA, 150TH BIRTH ANNIVERSARY
COMMEMORATION:-
Swami Vivekananda was borne in 1863. He was the founder of
Ramakrishna Mission. He was disciple of Ramkrishna Paramhansa. He introduced Vedanta &
Yoga to western world. He attended the Parliament of World Religions which was held in
Chicago in 1893 and gave his famous speech.
On the event of 150th Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, India has issued a 5 rupees
commemorative coin on 12th January 2013. The other coin issued in the denomination of 150
rupees is only issued for inclusion in proof / UNC sets.
REVERSE: - The reverse of this coin shows the image of Swami Vivekananda in his famous
standing posture (above waist). Both arms are crossed. He is in a robe with a turban. A whiff of
curly hair can be seen below the turban. On the top half periphery, the legend ‘SWAMI
VIVEKANANDA’ in both Hindi and English is shown. On the bottom half periphery, the legend
‘150 wi Jayanti’ in Hindi and ‘150 BIRTH ANNIVERSARY’ in English is shown. The year of
his birth ‘1863’ appears to the right side and the year of his death ‘1902’ appears to the left side
of his effigy.
OBSERVE --. The top portion contains words “Bharat” in Hindi and "INDIA" in English, The
bottom portion shows "Rupaye" in Hindi and "RUPEES" in English.The center portion bears the
“Lion capitol” of Ashok Pillar with the legend “Satyameva Jayate” in Hindi inscribed below, the
prominent International numeral “5” indicates the denomination.
