

After celebrating the 25 th Anniversary of Independence in 1972, India Started issuing
development oriented coins from 1973 onwards, every year on 16 th August on various
development themes – aiming at the all round development of the country and her people.
1976- FOOD AND WORK FOR ALL (F.A.O SERIES):
In 1976, India issued some development oriented coins on the theme ‘Grow More Food”. Since
the campaign to assure “Food and Work for All’, can only be achieved by a planned growth in
the population of the country with employment, this coin on the theme “FOOD AND WORK
FOR ALL: FAO SERIES” was issued in India for general circulation on 16 th August, 1976.The
other 2 coins on the same theme, are the 10 rupees and the 50 rupees coins, issued as
uncirculated/ proof specimens.
OBSERVE: The observe of this coin shows a farmers sitting in tractor which represents proper
work and seeds represents food growing which is beneficial for the sake of country.. The legend
“FOOD FOR WORK FOR ALL F.A.O SERIES” in English is inscribed on the left half of the
periphery and “Sabke Liye Anaaj aur Kaam”, in Hindi around the right half of the periphery.
REVERSE: The reverse of this coin shows the Ashokan lion and the value ‘10’ on the center. In
English “INDIA” and “PAISE” appear on the right side and in Hindi “Bharat” and “Paise”
appear on the left side.
