

2016 -- 150TH ANNIVERSARY OF ALLAHABAD HIGH COURT
COMMEMORATION:
The Allahabad High Court was established on 11-July-1866. It has jurisdiction over the Uttar
Pradesh. It is the 3rd oldest High court in India. The first being the Madras [Chennai] High
Court, established on 15-Aug-1862 followed by Bombay [Mumbai] in 14-Aug-1862. All these
were established under the High Courts Act of 1861. The year 2016 is being celebrated as 150th
(sesquicentennial) Anniversary of its establishment.
To mark the 150th year of its foundation, this 5 rupees coin was issued on 13th March 2016. The
other coin issued in the denomination of 150 rupees is only issued for inclusion in proof / UNC
sets.
REVERSE:-The Reverse face of the coin bears the image of Allhabad High Court in the centre,
with ‘1866 – 2016’ under it. The inscription “Allhabad Uchcha nayalaya ka 150 wa
Varshikochhaba” in Devnagri script is inscribed on the upper periphery and “150TH
ANNIVERSARYOF ALLHABAD HIGH COURT” in English is inscribed on the lower
periphery.
OBSERVE --. The top portion contains words “Bharat” in Hindi and "INDIA" in English, The
bottom portion shows "Rupaye" in Hindi and "RUPEES" in English.The center portion bears the
“Lion capitol” of Ashok Pillar with the legend “Satyameva Jayate” in Hindi inscribed below, the
prominent International numeral “5” indicates the denomination.
