

2015 – SWAMI CHINMAYANANDA BIRTH CENTENARY COMMEMORATION:
Swami Chinmayananda Saraswati was a Hindu spiritual leader and teacher, who inspired the
formation of Chinmaya Mission, a worldwide non profit organization; to spread the knowledge
of Advaita Vedanta, the non dualsystem of thought found in Upanishads, which shows the
phylosophical teaching of the vedas.
Chinmayananda is known for teaching Bhagavad Gita, the Upanishads and other ancient Hindu
scriptures. From 1951 onwards, he spearheaded a global Hindu spiritual and cultural renaissance
that popularised the religion and;s scriptural texts, teaching them in English all across India and
abroad.
On the occasion of commemorating Centenary year of birth of “Swami Chinmayananda”, this 10
rupees commemorative coin was released on 8th May 2015, for circulation. The other coin,
issued in the denomination of 100 rupees, is only issued for inclusion in proof / UNC sets.
REVERSE: - The reverse of the coin bears the portrait of “Swami Chinmayananda” in the
centre, with inscription “Swami Chinmayanand ki janmsati” in Devnagri script on upper
periphery and the inscription “Birth Centenary of Swami Chinmayananda” in English on the
lower periphery. The year “2015” is written below the portrait in international numerals.
OBSERVE -- The legend "Satyameva Jayate" appears below the Lion capital.
